Pozzolans
We supply three main pozzolans we believe provide the best results.
The addition of a pozzolan to a non-hydraulic lime mortar can result in an increase in durability. The chemical reaction between the lime and the pozzolan can strengthen the mortar giving it greater resistance whilst carbonation is in progress. Traditional lime putty mortars rely on carbonation for their strength and will as a result be weaker until carbonation has taken place.
It should be appreciated that different pozzolans will affect the lime mortar in different ways. Including finished colour, see images for reference.
Volcanic Trass from the Rhineland in 40kg bags, 15 Litre tubs & 1 litre pots
PFA (Pulverised Fuel Ash) in 25kg bags, 15 litre tubs & 1 Litre pots
Also used to tone down or darken lime mortars to blend with older existing mortars
GGBS (Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag) in 25kg bags.
