Traditional Lime

Traditional Lime, TradlymNon-hydraulic lime is produced by mixing lime putty with aggregates.

Lime Putty - This is produced at our yard by slaking highly reactive quicklime (calcium oxide) to form lime milk (calcium hydroxide). This is allowed to settle and mature for a minimum of four months at which time it is ready to be used as a binder.

Lime putty is available from stock for those who wish to make their own mortars on site. The Traditional Lime Co under its trade mark Tradlym produce an extensive range of ready prepared mortars which only require ‘knocking up’ on site before use.

Traditional lime for restorationAggregates are sourced nationwide to create vernacular mortars, both bedding and pointing. Renders and plaster Cock-fighting House restored using traditional limes are also produced, with backing coats reinforced with hair or fibre if required.

Although the stock range is extensive it can never be comprehensive. We therefore design mortars to match those specific to a given project after we have analysed samples taken from site.

Limewash is also an important part of our non-hydraulic product range. It is supplied ready prepared and can be coloured using natural earth pigments stocked by us.
